Federal, State, and institutional student financial aid programs are available to help cover your cost of attendance at Illinois State. For most financial aid programs such as Department of Education Title IV funding, completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first step in determining your eligibility. Please review the information found throughout the Financial Aid Office website to learn more about available financial aid programs and processes.
Federal and State Veteran's educational programs are available for active duty service members and Veterans of the U.S. Armed Services and, in some cases, the dependents of service members. Please note that resources received through most federal Veteran's educational programs do not affect financial aid eligibility. The following are State-sponsored military service grants:
Actively-serving members of the Illinois National Guard (Army or Air) may receive the ING to cover certain tuition and fees.
Illinois National Guard members (Army & Air) who have completed one full year of service are eligible for the ING if:
Complete the online ING application (direct link listed on our Financial Aid webpage) on or before October 1st of the academic year for which you're requesting assistance (must be completed annually). You will receive an eligibility certificate in the mail when approved. Once received, bring this form to the Financial Aid Office for processing.
Please note that the online application usually opens around May each year, so it is highly recommended that you apply early. Approved eligibility covers the period August 1st - July 31st the following year. Armed Forces Veterans who lived in Illinois for at least six months before entering military service and return to Illinois within six months after discharge (specific requirements listed below) may receive the Illinois Veterans Grant to cover eligible tuition and mandatory fees.
Honorably-discharged military Veterans (or service members currently serving honorably - see criteria below) are eligible for the Illinois Veterans Grant if:

Applications can be submitted any time during the academic year for which assistance is being requested and only needs to be submitted once to establish eligibility. You will receive an eligibility certificate in the mail when approved. Once received, bring this form to the Financial Aid Office for processing.
