Orientation

We recognize that due to military obligations, not all military-connected students returning home may be able to participate in our traditional orientation programs. While we highly recommend attending the established programs whenever possible (Preview for new freshmen, the Transfer Day program for new transfer students, and Welcome Week for all new Redbirds), we understand that duty or training sometimes conflicts with the scheduled orientation dates.

If your situation does not allow attendance at one of these programs, please contact Orientation Services - Preview (309-438-8486), or Orientation Services - Transfer Day (309-438-3859) to discuss alternative arrangements.

Veteran's Seminar

As a first-year student at Illinois State, please consider taking IDS 122A02 – Learning in the Communities (Linc): Veteran’s Seminar. The Veterans LinC (Learning in Communities) seminar helps build community among military- connected students as they develop academic skills necessary to reach personal and academic goals. The intent of the Veterans Seminar is to assist student Veterans in their transition to the University community, Bloomington-Normal area, and civilian life.

Military-connected students will also gain an understanding of how to maximize the resources provided by Illinois State University as well as those offered by the surrounding community. The seminar helps students develop the academic skills necessary for success in college in a small, seminar-style environment. If interested in signing-up, please contact University College's designated Veteran Academic Advisor, Chris McCombs.
